In order to let the new functions to re-define the central role of the building, it was necessary for the project to reinterpret the spaces of the Market amplifying its hidden qualities, with an intervention respectful of the historical memory but at the same time aware of the potential benefits of a complete re-edification. The project re-uses the Market, restoring the building wings on Corso Sardegna and part of the inner pavilions, thus maintaining the general lines of the original scheme and demolishing those added-on volumes which would prevent a coherent reading of the complex. The area behind this part is demolished in order to reclaim spaces for new sport facilities and a sufficient amount of parking lots.
